In a heartbreaking incident, seven devotees lost their lives and several others were injured when a wall collapsed at the Sri Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple in Simhachalam, Vizag, during the Chandanotsavam festival on April 30, 2025.
The accident took place near the ₹300 special queue line, where hundreds of devotees had gathered early in the morning for darshan. The sudden collapse caused chaos and panic among the crowd. Emergency services rushed to the spot, and rescue operations were immediately launched. One person was reported to be critically injured, while others sustained minor injuries.
The Chandanotsavam is one of the most significant religious events in Vizag, attracting lakhs of devotees each year. However, this year’s event turned tragic due to the unfortunate structural failure.
Officials have ordered a probe into the incident, and questions are being raised about the safety measures at such large-scale religious gatherings.
